We had about 20 volunteers join us at Tern Ave Trailhead to plant the pollinator garden.  The garden looks great! Keep an eye out for upcoming weeding parties!

Pollinator Garden Project: National Parks Article

This summer Chisago Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) finished a Conservation Partners Legacy (CPL) grant from the MN Department of Natural Resources. The purpose of the grant was to increase pollinator habitat on public lands within Chisago County. With funds from this grant Chisago SWCD was able to complete pollinator seeding projects with Chisago County Parks Department, the City of North Branch, the City of Taylors Falls and Chisago Lakes Rotary Club.
Chisago Lakes Rotary Club was the final partner for this grant. This year they started work on their undertaking of improving pollinator habitat on the Swedish Immigrant Trail. Chisago SWCD was able to partner with Chisago Lakes Rotary Club by reimbursing them for native plants that were installed in the two large pollinator gardens in Shafer this past June. Rotary also secured a grant with the help of The National Park Service - Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance program for the planting design and installation process. Rotary is working with several partners in the community to increase pollinator habitat and pollinator education. A kiosk was installed at the Shafer trail head in September.
Next time you’re driving past Shafer, pull in and check out the abundance of blooms and pollinators at these to amazing gardens!

At our Monthly Rotary Luncheon, Mayor Jill Behnke gave the group updates on the Trailhead plans for the Swedish Immigrant Trail in Center City.  Updates were given on fundraising, trail plans, and discussion on what Rotary will provide once the trailhead is constructed.  Lots of energy and excitement was expressed about these plans, and Rotary is looking forward to being a part of another trailhead project!

​Tern Ave Trail Head and Pollinator Garden

The Chisago Lakes Rotary Club adopted the portion of the Swedish Immigrant Bike Trail off of Tern Ave. We added a bench and bike rack at the Tern Ave trailhead, and continue to care for the pollinator garden we planted in 2022!
